Arrest Records Across Nebraska
Nebraska arrest records begin with the agency that acted. A county sheriff, city or village police department, Nebraska State Patrol trooper, campus police officer, or another authorized agency creates the incident and arrest report. A county jail or corrections custodian creates a separate booking file when the person is admitted. A citation or quick release may create no jail-roster entry.
Nebraska filed charges belong to the County or District Court record. Fingerprints and later Nebraska dispositions can create a statewide Nebraska State Patrol rap-sheet cycle. Those Nebraska records answer different questions. The Nebraska agency narrative describes the event. A booking record shows Nebraska custody at a point in time. JUSTICE shows what was filed. PCH shows adult Nebraska fingerprint-supported arrests and received outcomes.
50,191 Nebraska Arrests Reported in 2024
The Nebraska Crime Commission's 2024 report counted 50,191 arrests, including 43,639 adult arrests and 6,552 juvenile arrests. The largest categories were all other offenses with 9,369, larceny with 6,794, drug abuse violations with 6,654, DUI with 6,202, and simple assault with 5,434. These are agency-reported arrest events, not convictions or a count of unique people. Comparing 2023 with 2024 needs care. Omaha began reporting in August 2023 and represents about 24 percent of Nebraska's population. Some agencies were excluded for incomplete or missing reports. The official total is useful statewide context, but it cannot prove that every Nebraska arrest was captured.
The Nebraska Arrest Data Query lets readers explore reported aggregate counts.
The Nebraska dashboard is a statistics tool, not a person search or a live Nebraska jail roster.
Note: Nebraska's 2024 arrest total includes citations and summonses under UCR rules and does not count unique people.
From Nebraska Arrest to Rap Sheet
A Nebraska agency first records the event. If booking follows, the Nebraska custodian collects intake facts and ordinarily captures fingerprints. Qualifying prints and arrest descriptors travel to the Nebraska State Patrol Criminal Identification Division through LiveScan or paper-card channels. The Nebraska county attorney then decides what to file. Nebraska courts and justice partners report the final disposition back to CID.
Data flow: Arrest › Booking › Fingerprint Submission › Repository Entry
A transaction control number can link the fingerprint event to later action. Yet timing and completeness vary. A local booking may appear before a prosecutor files. JUSTICE usually refreshes nightly. Nebraska law directs prompt disposition reporting, no later than 15 days after the event. CID may then research a missing result.
Livescan can move Nebraska fingerprint data quickly, while smaller agencies may still mail ink cards. The repository's Quality Assurance Improvement Program works with local partners on missing and late information. That work began in 2014. It reflects a key limit: a statewide Nebraska arrest history stays current only when each source sends both the first fingerprint event and the later result.
No Prints, No Nebraska Arrest PCH Entry
The Nebraska State Patrol says its repository contains adult Nebraska arrests when the subject was fingerprinted. A known event can be absent because no prints were taken, the agency did not forward the card, or the event happened outside Nebraska. Only felony arrest fingerprint submission is specifically required. A missing PCH result therefore does not prove the arrest never happened.
The inverse matters too. A Nebraska PCH entry can start with an arrest charge that differs from what a Nebraska county attorney later filed. Read the Nebraska county court disposition before treating the first label as the outcome. Juvenile arrests are not released in an ordinary public NSP criminal-history request.
A public PCH request costs $30 and is nonrefundable. A clear Nebraska no-record response may arrive within minutes. A possible match can require human research and take up to three business days. Online reports remain available for 14 days, and the receipt number is needed to retrieve them. Entry mistakes cannot be edited after payment.
Note: A Nebraska PCH no-record result means no matching releasable repository entry, not that every local source was searched.
Nebraska Arrest Lookup Options
Start with the Nebraska source closest to the fact. A Nebraska county jail answers current local custody. The Nebraska arresting agency holds the narrative. JUSTICE shows a filed Nebraska case and disposition. NSP PCH provides a statewide Nebraska fingerprint-supported chronology. NDCS covers Nebraska state imprisonment, not a county jail.
- Identify the likely county and agency from the event location. Open the directory of all 93 Nebraska counties for verified local routes.
- Check the official jail roster or call the custodian for current custody, using the identifying details it requests.
- Request the incident or arrest report from the creating agency with the event number, date, time, and place when known.
- Search JUSTICE after the filing delay and check both County and District Court for the filed outcome.
- Order the $30 NSP PCH when the question is statewide adult Nebraska fingerprint-supported arrest history.
For Nebraska notification, VINELink may supplement participating custody systems.
VINELink can provide Nebraska status notices where supported, but it is not a certified case, sentence, or complete Nebraska arrest record.
Note: A county no-hit can reflect release, transfer, citation, spelling, or a different Nebraska county rather than no arrest.
Nebraska Arrest Data Is Not Name Search
The Nebraska Crime Commission query reports aggregate counts from 2000 forward. Its Nebraska controls can break data down by year, agency or geography, demographic dimensions, and offense categories exposed by the interface. Nebraska UCR counts a custody arrest, citation, or summons as an arrest event. A juvenile warning and release can also count under Nebraska reporting rules.
Multiple charges tied to one Nebraska arrest generally count once under the most serious-offense hierarchy. Thus a Nebraska statewide total does not equal unique people. The separate Nebraska Jail Data Query focuses on release-related statistics from 2016 forward. It is not a list of Nebraska detainees. Both systems carry agency participation and completeness limits.
Fields on a Nebraska Arrest Record
Nebraska arrest and booking fields vary by custodian. An agency report can contain an event number, time, place, alleged offense, arrest basis, officer, and narrative. The jail adds booking, custody, bond, hold, and release fields. Victim, witness, medical, financial, and other protected data may be redacted. Not every county publishes each field online.
Nebraska public-record requests should identify an existing report, date range, agency, event number, and preferred format. A written request starts the four-business-day response rule. The custodian may produce the record, deny it with a legal basis, estimate cost, or give a written good-faith completion date. Asking for segregable public portions can preserve access when an investigative exemption covers part of the file.
| Name and identifiers | Legal name, aliases, date of birth, and physical descriptors where lawfully released. |
|---|---|
| Arrest date and location | When and where the enforcement event occurred. |
| Arresting agency | The sheriff, police department, NSP, campus, or other authority that made the record. |
| Intake charges | Allegations recorded at booking, which may change after prosecutor review. |
| Booking data | Booking number, intake time, fingerprints, and a photograph where officially released. |
| Custody and release | Location, holds, bond type or amount, court, transfer, and release method where available. |
A booking photo does not prove guilt. Nebraska has no statewide mugshot gallery, and official availability can vary by county or change after release or restriction.
Nebraska Arrest Custody: Jail to NDCS
Recent Nebraska custody belongs at the county layer. County jails hold pretrial detainees, people waiting for transport, and many shorter local sentences. Nebraska's 93 counties operate custody themselves or use regional boarding arrangements. Rosters, phone access, and public booking fields differ by county. NDCS is the sentenced state system. It operates eight facilities, employs more than 2,300 people, and houses about 5,800 incarcerated people. A person may vanish from a local roster during transfer and appear later in the state locator. An NDCS no-hit says nothing about county pretrial custody.
The NDCS Incarceration Records Search accepts a last name or DCS identification number.
The free locator covers Nebraska state custody and history, not a county jail or federal detention.
Note: Nebraska county jail, NDCS prison, and federal custody are separate channels and can show different stages of one matter.
Nebraska Arrests and Convictions Compared
A Nebraska arrest records an enforcement action based on legal process or probable cause. A Nebraska conviction is a court judgment after a plea or verdict. Nebraska records can also end in no charge, diversion, dismissal, acquittal, or an amended charge. Read the Nebraska result for each count rather than treating the first booking allegation as final.
| Arrest Record | Conviction Record | |
|---|---|---|
| Created by | Arresting agency and, after intake, county jail | Nebraska court judgment, then reported to the repository |
| What it proves | An enforcement or custody event occurred | Guilt was established by plea or verdict |
| Public access | Source records vary; public PCH excludes specified old nonconvictions | Court and PCH access continues unless a specific restriction applies |
| Relief | Erroneous-arrest expungement is narrow; sealing may apply to qualifying results | A Nebraska set aside changes legal effect but does not erase the conviction |
Note: An arrest entry without a disposition is not proof of guilt; verify the Nebraska court outcome before reaching a conclusion.
Correct the Nebraska Arrest Source First
If a Nebraska PCH entry is wrong or lacks a final result, compare it with the county case file and arrest record. Get the signed judgment or source document. Then ask the court or agency that created it to validate and send the correction to the Nebraska State Patrol. CID can identify the source, but it does not accept an unsupported change from a requester. A Nebraska set aside follows a qualifying conviction and does not erase the visible record. Narrow expungement is reserved for an arrest caused by law-enforcement error, with a petition in District Court in the county of arrest. Dismissal or acquittal uses the public-dissemination and sealing rules instead. The signed county order should be checked against both JUSTICE and the later NSP output.
Public dissemination under Nebraska Revised Statute section 29-3523 excludes a no-charge arrest after one year, a completed diversion or no-charge event after two years, and specified dismissals or acquittals under stated conditions. A complete subject-authorized view may still contain them.
For federal custody, the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator is separate from Nebraska county and NDCS systems.
The federal locator is relevant only when the custody is federal; it does not supply a Nebraska arrest report or state case disposition.
