Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search box is transmitted to the third-party company operating that tool. The provider processes the query under its own terms and returns its results. Nebraska Criminal History does not keep a site-side log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to the site may be retained for the purpose of responding and maintaining the related correspondence. It is not shared outside the organization unless disclosure is legally required.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server may automatically receive routine technical details about the visit:
- Page-view timestamps and time spent on visited pages
- The device's assigned IP address
- Browser name and version
- Device type and operating system
- The referring website, when one is supplied
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies stored on a visitor's device help measure traffic patterns, such as popular pages and common exit points. Analytics providers may combine these measurements into site-level reports. Browser controls can block cookies, although doing so may change how some features operate.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and maintaining site security
- Keeping pages available and improving load performance
- Routing search requests to the selected outside service
- Measuring which guides are useful or need improvement
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Nebraska Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its pages explain how to locate information through Nebraska State Patrol, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, the Nebraska Sex Offender Registry, Nebraska courts, and local offices in the state's 93 counties. Visitor data is not turned into a consumer report or a dossier about another person, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes that appear on some pages. Information submitted through a box is subject to that company's privacy policy, retention practices, and sharing rules. This site does not control those practices. Review the provider's policy before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Nebraska government agencies, court portals, local sheriff or clerk sites, legal-help resources, and outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's policy controls its collection and use of information. Read that policy before providing personal details.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select targeted ads.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Government or law-enforcement authorities acting under a valid legal order
- Search providers that process queries submitted to their tools
- Advertising networks serving content on the pages
- Analytics vendors measuring traffic and performance
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable technical and organizational safeguards are used for data collected by the site. No internet-connected service can promise absolute protection, so a security incident remains possible despite those measures.
Users Under 18
This website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If such information is identified, it will be deleted when reasonably verified.
Your Data Rights
Applicable privacy and consumer-protection laws may provide additional rights. Nebraska's Public Records Law, Neb. Rev. Stat. §§84-712 through 84-712.09, governs Nebraska government records rather than this private website. Nebraska criminal-history dissemination is separately controlled by Neb. Rev. Stat. §§29-3520 and 29-3523. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Have us fix information that is wrong
- Request that we erase your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as the site or governing rules change. An updated version becomes available on this page with its current effective date.
